This year’s pre-conference session at HCAOA’s National Conference in Chicago on Sunday, October 22, focuses on state chapters and engagement with HCAOA at the national level. “State Chapters – Action, Advocacy & Networking” is about members getting involved with legislation and regulations at the state level, which is important because that’s where home care agencies are licensed, but it’s equally important to be engaged with your lawmakers at the federal level. According to Austin Schneider, HCAOA’s Chapter Relations Director, the pre-conference focuses on the benefits of getting involved with HCAOA. “Whether you have a state chapter in your state or not, we will discuss how important it is to become involved with your peers and others in the home care space. Being active not only elevates you and your agency, it also helps with your agency’s marketing,” explained Schneider.
One panel, “Talking with the Pros,” features three seasoned lobbyists who will discuss how HCAOA is doing in its advocacy efforts and how important it is for home care owners to become politically active to heighten the visibility and importance of home care. The three panelists are: Michael Strazzella, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, HCAOA’s federal lobbyist in Washington, DC; Melissa McKinley, Kelley Cawthorne, HCAOA’s Michigan Chapter lobbyist; and Tony Gonzalez, London & Gonzalez Advocacy, HCAOA’s California Chapter lobbyist. “The insight that will be provided to us from these three highly regarded lobbyists will be very helpful as HCAOA continues to strengthen and grow our state chapters’ advocacy, including elevating our industry in Washington, D.C.”, said Schneider. All conference attendees are encouraged to participate in the pre-conference. Registration is free but is required. Please make certain you include the pre-conference in your registration.
