Beginning February 29, the Washington State Department of Health announced that Prometric candidates will utilize a new Registration and Scheduling system (IQT) online portal to schedule and, if necessary, pay for their examination fees. A blackout period from February 14 to February 28, will prohibit exam scheduling, so do not submit exam payments to the Department of Health (DOH) after February 13, 2024.

Last week, the HCAOA California Chapter hosted its first meeting of 2024, and representatives from the Department of Social Services (DSS) were on hand to discuss upcoming updates. Pallavi Shimoda, Section Chief, Care Provider Management Branch, Home Care Services Bureau, discussed background check best practices, addressing specific questions and issues encountered during the process. Sonya Wilson, Acting Bureau Chief of Home Care Services Bureau, highlighted hiring an enforcement manager for the southern region of California and encouraged businesses to file complaints regarding non-compliance.

Last week, CMS sent the proposed Medicaid Access Rule, which would require that at least 80% of Medicaid payments for personal care, homemaker, and home health aide services be spent on compensation for the direct care workforce, to the Office of Management and Budget. This marks the next step in the lengthy rulemaking process and signals that a final rule could be released this Spring.
The Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) is actively conducting audits of Medicaid providers, including non-medical providers. Home care agencies are advised to conduct routine self-audits to ensure compliance and act quickly to respond to preliminary audit findings and penalties.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs released the preliminary 2024 Fee Schedule for the Community Care Network, effective February 1, 2024. The current fee schedule, which includes reimbursement rates for home care services, will remain in effect until then.
