Members in Ohio gathered last week during the HCAOA Ohio Chapter Conference in Columbus to get tips on home care licensure & recertification from Andrea Denning, Bureau Chief of the Bureau of Survey and Certification at the Ohio Department of Health. HCAOA CEO Jason Lee led a roundtable discussion addressing issues that are top of mind for Ohio members. HCAOA announced the 2024 National Caregiver of the Year last week at the National Home Care Conference in Seattle/Bellevue. Angela Chavez, a caregiver with Gold Star Home Care in Glendale, AZ, was honored in front of industry leaders. The overall Caregiver of the Year will be announced at the 2024 HCAOA National Home Care Conference on October 28, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue. The Caregiver of the Year will receive a $2,500 cash award and an all-expenses paid trip to Seattle-Bellevue, WA, for the conference, where the Caregiver of the Year will be honored in front of industry leaders.

HCAOA CEO Jason Lee recently spoke about the state of the home care industry with Nicky Reynolds, Marketing Communications Manager of Rosemark. Lee discussed the challenges facing the home care industry and the association’s legislative efforts. He highlighted critical issues such as workforce recruitment and retention, with many agencies struggling to find and keep qualified staff. Lee also discussed the implications of the Medicaid Access Rule, which mandates that 80% of funding be directed toward wages, a regulation that may not fit all states uniformly and presents various implementation challenges. The simultaneous rollout of multiple rules, including Medicaid, Overtime, and Non-compete Rules, has added to the complexity of navigating the industry’s regulatory landscape.

Last week, HCAOA Florida members gathered for a Chapter Networking Lunch and Meeting to learn about AHCA's updates on Alzheimer's disease and related disorders (ADRD) training requirements for non-skilled home care agencies and Medicare certification affecting PDN agencies. Updates on the Medicaid 80/20 provision, DOL Overtime Rule, the FTC Ban on Noncompete Agreements, and Chevron deference were provided.
