Grow your home care agency with Caregiving Marketing!
Caregiving Marketing is the newest Associate Member of HCAOA, offering tailored marketing solutions for home care businesses. HCAOA members may have read about the cyber attack on Change Healthcare last week. Many healthcare providers, including those servicing Medicaid or Veterans through the VA Community Care Network, either submit claims to a portal or directly to Change Healthcare, which processes the claims and facilitates payment. In the wake of the attack, Change Healthcare disconnected claim submission platforms.
Yesterday, more than 40 HCAOA members and staff spent the day at the state Capitol in Sacramento asking lawmakers and members of the Newsom Administration to support a bill to protect seniors and families hiring in-home support. The main issue of discussion for the day was AB 2185, which would prohibit Domestic Referral Agencies (DRAs) from compensating home care workers and independent contractors, which has become more and more of an issue in California, especially in recent years as the demand for services grows.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released updated recommendations to safeguard individuals and communities from respiratory viruses, such as COVID-19, influenza (flu), and RSV. Highlighting the reduced rates of hospitalizations and deaths related to COVID-19, the CDC’s guidance underscores the importance of staying current with vaccinations, practicing good hygiene like covering coughs and washing hands often, and improving indoor air quality. If you do become sick, it is recommended to stay home until symptoms improve and return to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving, and you have been without fever without the use of medication. The updated guidance emphasizes a unified approach to respiratory viruses, making it easier to adopt and limit disease spread. HCAOA urges all members to take action now by sending a message to your Senator regarding the Veterans’ Health Empowerment, Access, Leadership, and Transparency for our Heroes (HEALTH) Act (S.1315). Sponsored by U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS), U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), and Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA-1), this vital legislation aims to protect and expand veterans' access to care while safeguarding them to choose their own providers and require the VA to improve the quality of care veterans receive. President Joe Biden highlighted the value of homecare during his State of the Union Address last week and, in his statement, said, “Imagine a future with paid leave because no one should have to choose between working and taking care of yourself or a sick family member. Imagine a future with home care and elder care so seniors and people living with disabilities can stay in their homes and family caregivers get paid what they deserve! Tonight, let’s all agree once again to stand up for seniors!”
Great news for the home care and home health industries in Washington! The final state operating budget was recently released, and HCAOA’s budget proviso requests were all included. Private duty nursing and home health Medicaid rates both saw increases. See below for more details.
