VIRGINIA: Northam Approves Paid Sick Leave for Home Health Care Workers

Governor Northam approved a variety of bills and amendments at the deadline for him to act on measures passed during this year’s General Assembly session. The bills will take effect on July 1. One of which included extending paid sick leave to home health care workers. The bill only applies to employers whose workers serve patients enrolled in Medicaid, which amounts to roughly 30,000 caregivers in the state. read more

I agree! bathing and bathroom functions, feeding, grooming, taking medication, and some housework. Caregivers help clients make and keep appointments with doctors

Sick leave is granted to allow employees to recover from illness or injury. Employees who take up any secondary employment during a period of paid leave must seek prior approval

Absolutely! The law covers home health providers working at least 20 hours per week or 90 hours per month. Home health can include personal care, respite, companion services and more.
