VA Exploring Electronic Visit Verification – Let HCAOA Know What You Think!

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is exploring the use of Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) for those providing homemaker/home health services. HCAOA will be submitting feedback on behalf of members, and we want to know your thoughts.
All members who do VA work are asked to please complete a brief survey. It is anonymous and will take less than three minutes to complete. Click here to complete the survey.

My other office has to use EVV for Regional Center work. It is built into WellSky and transparent to us. The agency is flexible with errors after review. So, I will not object if VA goes to EVV, especially if the accompanying shift notes can then be submitted electronically.

To Whom It May Concern:
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the VA's consideration of EVV. TEAM Public Choices provides home care services to over 50,000 people across 28 states, with an emphasis on empowering self-direction and consumer choice. Our experience is that EVV, though well-intended, is burdensome to clients and their caregivers, imposes unnecessary administrative burden, and distracts from the goal of delivering high quality care. Thus, we recommend the VA not adopt an EVV requirement. However, if the VA decides to implement EVV, we recommend they consider the following:
- exempt live-in caregivers
- allow for flexible scheduling
- allow multiple reporting mechanisms (such as paper timesheets, FOBS, etc.)
- provide an open model so that providers may choose technology that aligns with existing infrastructure/EHR
- provide initial and ongoing funding for providers for implementation costs and training

Thank you for considering our feedback.

With gratitude,
Steph Roberts

Steph, thank you for your thoughtful comments on EVV. We will incorporate them into our communications with the VA.
