Three Reasons Why You Should Contribute to the HCAOA Advocacy Fund

4/19/2023

HCAOA developed an Advocacy Fund to support state lobbyists retained by the association. These staffers are strong boots on the ground obtaining news about proposed regulations and legislation, as well as vocal advocates for the value of home care.

There are many reasons why you should donate to the HCAOA Advocacy Fund. Below are three timely ones for you to consider:

  1. Older Americans want to remain in their own homes, but they need more help. This is why the HCAOA California Chapter, with the support of HCAOA’s CA lobbyist, has initiated legislation to respond to the needs of older Californians by expanding the services that home care aides can perform including assisting with self-medications, reading blood pressure, and applying topical creams. A similar effort was made in Illinois and the regulation was amended!
  2. In Connecticut, the Department of Consumer Protection has recently prohibited home care agencies from using the word “care” in marketing materials and on websites. The Connecticut Chapter and HCAOA’s CT lobbyist are fighting back by meeting with the Administration and legislators to highlight DCP’s over-reach and the absurdity of this guidance.
  3. We believe veterans should have a choice as to where they receive care and most of them prefer to receive care in their own home. HCAOA is standing up for veterans by urging the Senate to restore the home care section in the Elizabeth Dole Act, S 141. Veterans have fought for us, now it’s our turn to fight for them.
