September is National Healthy Aging Month. Launched more than 25 years ago, the mission behind Healthy Aging Month is to draw attention to the importance of healthy lifestyles for older adults. Could one of your clients or caregivers benefit from creating or refreshing a care plan? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have resources dedicated to helping older adults and caregivers make a detailed plan, as well as these “6 Tips for Healthy Aging.”
ACTION ALERT: HCAOA urges all members to send a message to their lawmakers in Washington, D.C. asking them to advocate for an extension of the employer tax credit which helps cover costs related to COVID-19 sick leave for employees. Currently, home care providers and other employers may receive tax credits for up to 12 weeks of paid family leave provided to employees who are unable to work due to COVID-related issues as listed under the several reasons listed in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). These issues can include taking care of the employee's own health needs or caring for family members.
All home care agencies in Washington are encouraged to order gloves, gowns, masks, respirators, and other supplies from the PPE Stockpile as soon as possible. Access to this resource will end on October 25. Each facility is eligible to order up to a 90 day supply. To access this resource, contact your local Emergency Management Agency.
Last Tuesday, more than 70 home care providers gathered in Rocky Hill for the HCAOA Connecticut Chapter meeting. During the event state Consumer Protection Department officials discussed homemaker-companion registration, the investigations and audit process, and advertising requirements. Commissioner Michelle Seagull discussed the need for providers to obtain a license from the Department of Public Health if they are offering any healthcare-related services and noted recent changes to background check requirements effective Jan. 1, 2022.
