New Report Explores Home-Based Care Transformation During Pandemic

​Last week, Moving Health Home (MHH) released a new report exploring the transformation that home-based care has undergone during the pandemic. Insights and findings from this report are based in part on in-depth interviews conducted by Avalere Health with leaders from organizations, including Landmark Health, DispatchHealth, Contessa Health, Ascension, and Advocate Aurora Health, which have either based or adapted their clinical and business models to serve patients in their homes.

MHH identified four lessons learned from the pandemic experience, including:

• Home-Based Care Encompasses a lot More than Home Health
• Organizations with Experience Providing Home-Based Care Were Well-Positioned to Respond to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE)
• Home-Based Care Models Boost Patient Satisfaction, Improve Quality, and Reduce Costs
• Regulatory Flexibility is Essential to Success
  
  

“While we are strong supporters of research and data insights that demonstrate the tremendous impact home care has on keeping seniors and people with disabilities safe and healthy at home, we are disappointed that home care was not spotlighted more in MHH’s discussion of the home-based care continuum,” said HCAOA CEO Vicki Hoak. “Home care maintains a critical role on this continuum – arguably the heart, serving the role of pre- AND post-acute care, and we hope to be able to work with MHH in the future to discuss this point and educate them about the important work our members do."
