A new report from the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC), Bipartisan Solutions to Improve the Availability of Long-term Care, highlights the need for more easily accessible in-home care services for seniors. The report notes the common challenges associated with accessing long-term services and supports, such as the growing cost of care. For example, in the February 2021 report, Cost of Care Trends & Insights, “the cost for facility and in-home care services has on average increased faster than the rate of inflation since 2004.” The other most common challenge to finding care is the critical caregiver shortage. In the report, the BPC laid out five specific recommendations to improve the availability of long-term care - the first of which is to expand access to home- and community-based services.
