Home care agency owners know more than anyone that the United States economy has had a wild past year and a half. A new Labor Day report by Littler’s Workplace Policy Institute found that in early 2020, the U.S. had enjoyed a historic high rate of employment. Then jobs declined by 1.4 million in March 2020, and then by 20.8 million in April 2020, the largest drop ever recorded. This four-part report examines the current job market and also what challenges employers will face in the coming months - especially with recruiting and retaining staff. Countless industries, including home care, are struggling to find workers. Littler’s Labor Day report shared that a recent poll conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau found that 35.7% of responding employers claimed that in the next six months, their business will need to identify and hire new employees.
Additionally, the report explained how some employers are getting creative with their approach by offering health and wellness benefits, child care benefits, college counseling services, tuition reimbursement plans, elder care, pet benefits, and more. Click here to read the full Labor Day report.
