The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has preliminarily outlined a legislative and budget proposal for 2023 that may raise the licensure fee for home care aides to offset a historical deficit in funds in the home care aide and agency affiliated counselor regulatory programs. The proposed increase for licensure could go from $85 to $100 in 2023, but rates could possibly change depending on how the rulemaking goes.
By raising fees, providers fear aides may be driven out of the profession, worsening access to home care, which is already strapped with worker shortages. HCAOA will continue to monitor this situation and advocate for HCAOA member providers and their care professionals in Washington.
