Every agency owner should routinely be asking, ‘is my staffing where it needs to be?’ or ‘which positions do I need to hire for next, and in what order?’. One metric that can help agencies answer this question is shown here—billable hours per care coordinator. Looking at the 932-hour median, if an agency's number is significantly lower it would be a strong indicator that they need to become leaner by concentrating responsibilities with the people best able to perform them and cutting out unnecessary positions. If an agency's number is significantly higher that’s a cause for concern as well, it may indicate that they are sacrificing quality for efficacy. Seek a good balance.
