HCAOA Connecticut Chapter Members Appointed to State Home Care Task Force

​Several HCAOA Connecticut members have been appointed to serve on a task force to study issues concerning homemaker-companion agencies. ​The 12-member task force was established by Special Act 22-12. 

The Connecticut Senate Chairman of the Legislature’s Aging Committee initiated the study and the HCAOA Connecticut Chapter supported it.
 
The following members were chosen for the task force:

• Mark McGoldrick, HCAOA Connecticut Chapter chair and owner of several Comfort Keepers offices in Connecticut and chairman of the Connecticut Chapter, was appointed by the Speaker of the House by designation in the bill,
• Maria Cerino, owner of Seniors Helping Seniors in Mystic and a member of the Chapter’s legislative and public policy committee was appointed by the House Republican Leader at the Chapter’s request, and
• Michael Savoie, owner of Executive Care in Stratford, was appointed by the Senate Republican Leader.

 
McGoldrick was also selected to serve as co-chairman of the task force.
 
The study will cover, among other issues:

• whether any changes are necessary in qualification and registration criteria for home care agencies,
• the system for resolving complaints about HCAs and whether the system is adequate,
• training and recruitment methods of HCAs and whether any changes are needed,
• public awareness and education strategies that may be needed to ensure clients can locate and choose agencies providing quality services,
• services HCAs are authorized to provide and advertise and whether additional limitations are needed on advertising services, and
• best practices nationwide to ensure quality services by HCAs.

 
The task force, which is expected to get underway shortly, is required to submit its findings and recommendations to the Aging and General Law Committees by January 1, 2023.
