Grant Opportunity for California Home Care Agencies

The $55 million CalGrows Innovation Fund will provide funding for workforce training and incentive programs that increase the skills, retention, and job satisfaction of the direct care (HCBS) workforce, including paid direct care workers as well as unpaid family or friend caregivers. This program is an opportunity for home care agencies to receive funding for what they are already doing: training, retaining, and increasing the job satisfaction of your caregivers.

Examples of innovative ideas include:

• Using incentives and stipends to encourage training participation and workforce retention
• Focusing on core competencies that address the physical, emotional, workplace readiness, and professional growth aspects of the job, as well as lived experiences of the direct care workforce
• Providing training in multiple languages, specializations, expanded times and locations, and with added supports for transportation, childcare, technology, and other barriers
• Developing skills to build a direct care workforce that can serve the diversity of California’s aging and disabled populations in a culturally responsive manner
• Providing training and incentives for upward career mobility and movement into related careers
