According to “Language Use in the United States: 2019,” the number of people in the United States who spoke another language other than English at home nearly tripled over the past 40 years—growing from 23.1 million in 1980 to 67.8 million in 2019. The number of people who spoke only English grew by about one-fourth.
With nearly one-third of care professionals born outside of the U.S., home care has a high percentage of employees who speak a second language. Recognizing the importance of these statistics in home care employee recruitment, training and support is important for providers.
