Last week, the HCAOA Michigan Chapter held a virtual legislative update to discuss important issues including plans for legislation to fix the ongoing auto no fault issue in the state, as well as licensure. Click here to view a recording of the meeting.
HCAOA shared its template licensure language, which has been used in several other states considering or implementing licensure. Please note this is not final language nor does it necessarily reflect what would come out of the Michigan Legislative Council’s Legislative Service Bureau, which drafts any actual legislation. HCAOA has not formally asked any legislator or governmental entity to license home care within Michigan as of this date. The association will hold a membership-wide discussion before any actions are taken. “HCAOA believes that having a seat at the table when regulations and laws are drafted is far better than having those regulations and laws drafted behind closed doors,” said HCAOA VP of Government Relations Eric Reinarman.

As a reader, I find the update on the HCAOA Michigan Chapter's virtual legislative update interesting. It's encouraging to see their focus on addressing the auto no-fault issue and licensure in the home care industry. The sharing of template licensure language and the plan for membership-wide discussions demonstrates their proactive approach. I'm curious to see how these discussions will shape the future of home care in Michigan.
