The Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) has released the one-hour Alzheimer’s training that is now required for all caregivers. The link to the training is below. Once the course is taken, the certificate of completion does not expire. All new hires must complete the training upon hire or provide the certificate of completion provided by the DOEA. Employees that have been hired since July 1, 2023 must complete the training immediately. Employees hired prior to July 1, 2023, must complete the training by July 1, 2026.
INITIAL ONE HOUR TRAINING The Department of Elder Affairs provides the initial one-hour training program and basic written information at no cost to participants. This program covers the required training topics for employees who provide personal care to or have regular contact with patients, participants, or residents in licensed care settings. One Hour Training Once participants have completed the training program, they must fill out and submit the training certification form here. Participants will receive a copy of their one-hour training submission form via email at the end of this training. Participants must click “send me a copy of my responses” to receive their copy of the submission form. This submission form will serve as the Certificate of Completion. Participants should provide this submission form to their employer to be maintained in their personnel file. The presence of this submission form will be verified by AHCA during routine monitoring visits. For an example of what the printed submission form should look like, please click here. All other details related to the new training requirements can be found at DOEA’s website here.
