Last week the National Academy for State Health Policy released the final component of the RAISE Act State Policy Roadmap for Family Caregivers. This roadmap was developed from the efforts of the RAISE Council, their report to Congress and their efforts to improve recognition and support of caregivers. As professional home care providers recognize, a successful home care experience depends on the family caregiver. The new State Policy Roadmap for Family Caregivers provides state officials with a better understanding of the state policy landscape to support family caregivers and also identify opportunities for innovation in their own states.
The RAISE Council was established following the passage of the federal RAISE Family Caregivers Act to recognize, assist, include, support and engage family caregivers by providing recommendations to the Secretary of the HHS and improving coordination of services across federal government programs. One of HCAOA’s Board members, Jisella Dolan of Home Instead + Honor, serves on the RAISE Council. HCAOA supports the State Policy Roadmap for Family Caregivers and we encourage members to reach out to their state officials and urge them to follow the recommendations to support family caregivers.
