Last week, Sami Asaad, Esq., Chair, Home Healthcare Practice Group with FordHarrison, provided an update to the HCAOA Connecticut Chapter about changes to the state’s FMLA program beginning in 2021 and what agencies should be doing now to prepare.
He reiterated that this applies to all private employers and is funded solely by employee contributions. Employee withholdings begin on January 1, 2021 and eligible employees can begin using CT Paid FMLA on January 1, 2022.
Agencies must register their agency at https://ctpaidleave.org/ by December 31 and begin making withholdings from payroll starting on January 1, 2021 to be deposited with the Paid Leave Authority. The first quarterly contribution deadline is April 30, 2021.
Asaad encourages agencies to communicate with employees so they understand why their paycheck is being reduced.
