What’s ahead for home care? HCAOA and other industry leaders teamed up with myCNA jobs to develop the 2022 Guide to Insights on The Future of Senior Care, featuring discussions about today’s market, where the puck is heading, and key innovations to keep your eye on in 2022.
One of the most critical ways that home care agencies can add value to the rest of the care continuum is by reducing the number of clients that are readmitted to hospitals. Home care is an ideal setting to focus on reducing readmissions because of its ability to proactively address factors across all parts of a senior’s life that could lead to an issue requiring readmission.
The RAISE (Recognize, Assist, Include, Support, and Engage) Family Caregiving Advisory Council delivered its recommendations to Congress to support millions of unpaid family caregivers who care for older adults and people with disabilities across the United States.
When individuals with complex health needs receive clinically appropriate, home-delivered meals for 13 weeks, their overall medical spend and emergency department use significantly decreased for the next six months, according to just-released results of a pilot program between Mom’s Meals and UPMC for You. Preliminary Survey Results Show Agencies Increasing Wages, Still Struggling to Staff Cases10/20/2021 HCAOA surveyed members about the impact of the workforce shortage and COVID vaccine mandates to gather first-hand data and illustrate how these issues uniquely affect the home care industry. Nearly 800 agencies completed the survey, or roughly 20% of HCAOA members. HCAOA is working with Home Care Pulse to do an in-depth analysis of the data, but at first glance, the survey shows that 94% of respondents have increased their wages in the past year to help with caregiver recruitment. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) reported last week that unemployment benefit claims sank below 300,000 for the first time since the pandemic began. For the week ending October 9, claims decreased to 293,000, down 36,000 from the previous week’s revised total. DOL also reported that continuing claims, the total number of Americans already claiming those same benefits, dropped by 134,000 to 2.59 million for the week ending on October 2. A new report, Medicaid Forward: Long-term Services and Supports, from the National Association of Medicaid Directors, describes the stark realities facing our long-term care system, and opportunities for state Medicaid leaders and their federal partners to respond. The report specifically focuses on how states can use the recent investments Congress made in the American Rescue Plan Act to support this work. In this law, Congress made an initial investment of more than $9 billion to expand access to home- and community-based services and to strengthen the direct care workforce. The unique nature of the home care industry can make it more difficult to collect data. That’s why HCAOA is conducting a brief survey of home care agencies to learn about the specific challenges members are experiencing related to the COVID vaccine and staffing at this critical moment in time. These responses will help guide HCAOA’s advocacy efforts on behalf of members. Please take just a few minutes to complete this important survey today. As small business owners continue to face applicant shortages for open positions, it is more important than ever to focus on creating a great candidate experience to attract talent. HCAOA partner CareerPlug surveyed 500 people who have applied for jobs within the last year and analyzed their answers about their experience during the hiring process. Fifty-eight percent of job seekers interviewed reported declining a job offer because of a poor candidate experience. GEORGIA: The lobbying process is beginning again very soon as the HCAOA Georgia Chapter prepares for the 2022 legislative session. A new report from the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC), Bipartisan Solutions to Improve the Availability of Long-term Care, highlights the need for more easily accessible in-home care services for seniors. The report notes the common challenges associated with accessing long-term services and supports, such as the growing cost of care. |
