HCAOA Executive Director Vicki Hoak recently met with Kathleen Sobero, Director of Provider Operations, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, to discuss members’ issues relating to provider enrollment and payment related to the Veterans Administration Homemaker and Home Health Program.
A number of states have recently taken regulatory action related to COVID-19.
Last week, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed a liability shield law, which protects health care providers from lawsuits related to “injury, death, or loss to property or person caused by exposure to, the transmission of, or contraction of COVID-19 or any mutation thereof,” except in the case of reckless, intentional or willful transmission. This laws to claims arising between March 9, 2020, and September 30, 2021.
Mark McGoldrick has been named to lead the HCAOA Connecticut State Chapter. He served most recently as chairman of the HCAOA Connecticut legislative and public policy committee. He succeeds Chaim Gewirtzman, CEO of NCE Homecare of Waterbury, who served as chair for three years.

The nature of senior care services makes it difficult to get online reviews that can help boost your visibility. New HCAOA Associate Member Approved Senior Network has provided a list of tips for businesses to help increase the number of reviews. Included in the tips are: ask and keep asking clients; seize the moment when a client reaches out; get staff involved; reply to every review on every platform (in a professional way); and look for platforms that make reviews easy.
In August, Inc. Magazine, which covers independent businesses, launched its 2020 Inc. 5,000. The annual list quantifies the fastest growing private companies in the country on a rolling three-year basis. Several home care agencies were included in the 2020 iteration of the Inc. 5,000, including five HCAOA members:

Jennifer Niklas, Home Care Services Bureau Chief at the California Department of Social Services, will share updates on how the state is approaching home care operations. Chapter lobbyists Tony Gonzalez and Carl London will follow with a legislative update, and chapter co-chairs Mitch Williams and Doug Dickstein will share the chapter’s policy vision for 2021.
