At its meeting on October 21, the Connecticut Legislature’s Homemaker Companion Task Force received presentations from the Departments of Consumer Protection (DCP) and Public Health (DPH). The Homemaker Companion Task Force has scheduled a public hearing for Friday, November 4, and HCAOA Connecticut Chapter representatives plan to testify.
Three HCAOA Connecticut members currently serve of the Homemaker Companion Task Force – CT Chapter Chair Mark McGoldrick, as well as members Maria Cerino and Michael Savoie. The Legislative Program Manager for DCP discussed the requirements to register as a homemaker-companion agency in Connecticut and the recently enacted DCP proposals, including background checks.

Important Resource for Providers: 988 – The New National Mental Health and Substance Abuse Hotline11/2/2022 Content submitted by Elizabeth E. Hogue, Esq. Providers of all types of services to patients in their homes may encounter patients/clients and others who need assistance with mental health and/or substance abuse problems. There is now an alternative to dialing 911 or to calling the police. On July 16, 2022, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) designated the dialing code 988 for national mental health and substance abuse services. This is an important resource for all health providers, especially providers who render services to patients in their homes.
