HCAOA CEO Vicki Hoak participated in last week’s NAIIS Workshop held in Washington, DC to discuss the country’s plan on promoting three vaccines that older Americans should receive this fall: Flu, COVID, and RSV, or the Big 3 Vs. This was an invitation-only event that drew representatives from health systems, health plans, pharmaceutical companies, pharmacists, state health officials, nursing homes, and the Veterans Administration.
Celebrate National Immunization Awareness Month by sharing information about Medicare vaccine coverage. Thanks to a new prescription drug law that went into effect last year, as of January 1, 2023, the Medicare Part D drug plan now covers most vaccines at no cost. All adult vaccines recommended by the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices are now covered with no out-of-pocket costs. The Medicare drug plan won't charge a copay or apply a deductible for vaccines received like shingles, whooping cough, tetanus, and more. Don’t forget to submit your nominations for the 2023 Caregiver of the Year Award. The cash prize has doubled from $1,000 to $2,000 as a result of the kind investment from HCAOA partner Careswitch. The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs voted last Wednesday to report out H.R. 542, The Elizabeth Dole Home Care Act, to the full House of Representatives. HCAOA members strongly advocated for a more accurate CBO score – from the original score of $24 billion to the more realistic of $200 million over 10 years – and for allowing veterans to exceed the 65% cap on home care. While this is a step forward, our work continues. Join our effort to get more sponsors on this bill. Contact your U.S. Representative and urge them to speak up for our veterans and sign on as a sponsor for H.R. 542.

Attendees walked away with actionable tips that can be applied to their personal and professional lives. Then Jessica Nobles, CEO of Home Care Ops took the attendees on a journey to creating an effective scheduling strategy that drives client satisfaction and caregiver retention. Her expertise left a lasting impact on all those in attendance. The HCAOA needs your thoughts on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs exploration of the use of Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) for those providing homemaker/home health services. HCAOA will be submitting feedback on behalf of members.
