Members of HCAOA generate 57% MORE revenue than non-members, according to the 2024 Activated Insights Benchmarking Report. This is up from an additional 45% in revenue in 2022, surpassing 75% of the industry. Keeping members apprised of federal and state advocacy issues impacting their business to educational resources through chapter meetings, the HCAOA National Home Care Conference, the Home Care Scheduler’s Virtual Symposium, and more provides members with important information to keep their operations running as efficiently as possible.

Genworth 2023 Cost of Care Survey Results Now Available

Genworth has been tracking the costs of long-term care services nationwide since 2004. The 2023 Cost of Care Survey gathered data from over 11,000 surveys from nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult day health facilities, and home care providers. Although the expenses for home care aides have risen, they remain notably lower compared to institutional care, as illustrated by the data in the Genworth Cost of Care Survey results.

Connecticut News - Yale to Study Mental Health of Caregivers of Dementia Patients

The Yale School of Medicine has been awarded $250,000 from the Humana Foundation to study mental health among primary caregivers for people living with dementia. The goals are to determine whether advance care planning positively impacts caregivers and patients and to develop tools to facilitate meaningful communication to make this happen.

New Study: Shortages Force 89% of Agencies to Turn Away Care + Agencies May Overestimate Caregiver Fulfillment

​Eighty-nine percent of providers have had to deny home care because of the workforce crisis. On average, small- and mid-sized providers refuse 510 care hours each month, according to a new study released last week by MissionCare Collective, the parent organization of myCNAjobs. The study also notes that a majority of home care agencies have seen problems surrounding recruitment and retention worsen in the past six months.

Essential Support: State Hazard Pay and Sick Leave Policies for Direct Care Workers During COVID-19

​A new report released last week by PHI found that while 24 states and the District of Columbia supported direct care workers with hazard pay and/or paid sick leave policies during the first 18 months of COVID-19, 26 states did not.

​This report details findings from a recent study by PHI on hazard pay and paid sick leave policies enacted across all 50 states and DC from March 2020 to August 2021 (the first 18 months of the COVID-19 pandemic). The purpose of the study was to document how states responded to the challenges faced by direct care workers and other essential workers during one of the most devastating health crises in recent history—and to generate lessons for the future.

‘Overlooked & Undervalued’: Cornell Research Team Focuses on Home Care Workers

​Researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine, alongside experts from the ILR School and Cornell Tech, have developed a multidisciplinary program aimed at elevating the value of home care workers – which includes home health aides, home attendants and nursing assistants – while improving both their working conditions and their patients’ outcomes. In three years, the team has produced more than 20 academic papers that aim to reshape the way policymakers view this critical workforce.
