By the Numbers: A Powerful Voice for Home Care

We’re thrilled to share the success of this year’s Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C.! With 140 passionate participants from 32 states, our advocates made a powerful impact by attending 141 meetings with lawmakers and key staff. 

​Together, they delivered a unified message on the vital importance of home care, advocating for policies that support caregivers, clients, and the future of the industry. Thank you to everyone who raised their voice—your dedication is helping shape a stronger, more compassionate system of care.
 
Additional Key Meetings at Advocacy Day

• Meetings with House & Senate VA Committees: In addition to meetings with Members of Congress and their staff, members of the HCAOA VA Advisory Council conducted two meetings with key Veterans Affairs Committee staff to discuss the challenges our members across the country are facing in delivering care to our veterans.
  
  
• Meeting with the U.S. Small Business Administration: HCAOA and members of our national board also conducted a significant meeting with two attorneys at the U.S. Small Business Administration to discuss the impact of the 80/20 provision in the Medicaid Access Rule and the impact of the companionship exemption on small businesses. In response to these discussions, HCAOA is currently compiling data that SBA intends to use in discussions with the White House, illustrating the urgent need for policy adjustments to support small businesses in the home care sector.

• Meeting with the Department of Labor: Lastly, HCAOA leadership and members of our national board attended a meeting with the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor. The companionship exemption was discussed as well as issues related to worker misclassification. The Department seemed receptive to HCAOA’s concerns on both fronts. HCAOA will keep members apprised of any policy changes that result from these meetings.
