Faces of Caregiving: Cereta Tyndale

Caregiver of the Year, 2018

Cereta Tyndale was selected as the HCAOA 2018 Caregiver of the Year as a dedicated, hardworking and patient caregiver who is a great advocate for her clients. She has a natural talent for working with the elderly and has been instrumental in the success of all her clients.  She understands her clients' needs and adapts well to provide the highest quality care. Working with some of the most difficult cases, she is always successful.

For the 10 years that she has been with Companions For Living, Cereta has always taken a collaborative approach with both families and colleagues.  Cereta worked as part of a 2-person team.  She and her colleague coordinated the care for a client who required a 2-person assist. The client's family often complimented how well the two worked together, and took initiative to help the client thrive.  Currently Cereta is working as a live-in in a facility setting.  The facility's staff and the family have commented on her excellent skills and dedication, going so far as to say that the client would not have survived, let alone thrive, if not for Cereta's care.

Previously bed-bound in a nursing home, John has been lucky enough to have Cereta as his Caregiver. Cereta received special training for 7 days before her client could be discharged back to his apartment. With help from the medical team, she learned how to safely get him to walk, get him in and out of the bed and the shower, and change his Foley bag. According to John's daughter, the "Doctor is amazed saying only God and Cereta are keeping him alive."   John is now living in his apartment and is no longer bed-bound. He is able to get around using his wheel chair and walker for transfers. He enjoys going to various group activities such as yoga, movies, crafts and games, and spending time outside.  John's life has transformed because of the help Cereta has given him.
